“I couldn’t imagine how much Drano we’d need to un-stick a hellhound wedged halfway down a tunnel to the Underworld.”

“I don’t know,” she admitted. “That kind of depends on whether you save the world, hero.

Book Summary:

Half-bloods have spent the year attempting to prepare for a battle against the Titans led by Kronos, knowing that the chances for victory were unlikely at best. Every day Kronos’s army grows in size and strength as he recruits gods to his side.

The release of the Titan Typhon signals the final onslaught of Kronos’s army against the gods of Olympus. The gods take swift action to battle Typhon, leaving only one god to defend Olympus. Percy and the other half-bloods take up the feat of battling Kronos and defending Olympus. Percy and his friends call on unlikely allies to help them.

Percy also faces the long-awaited prophecy, is it really about him or another half-blood?

Book Rating   3/5

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Last Olympian is the fifth and final book in Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. With the release of the great Titan Typhon that almost defeated the gods before the Olympian gods are divided more than ever before. Kronos continues to recruit gods to his ever-growing army. The remaining gods struggle to defeat Typhon, battling him with all their might as he travels closer to Olympus.

In the book, The Last Olympian refers to the remaining god left to defend Olympus from the Titans. The god is often considered the weakest of the gods of Olympus, but Percy finds that this god is also the most important as a symbol of hope.

I like the way Riordan continues to show subtle ways that not everyone is completely good or evil including mortals, half-bloods, heroes, and even the gods themselves. Riordan gives opportunities that depict the gods and half-bloods acting differently then they are normally portrayed or expected.

One particular thing I didn’t like in The Last Olympian is the manner Riordan seemed to emotionally pull Percy back from his friends and family. It is fitting for the story and realistic for the character, I just wasn’t a fan. This is more of an individual dislike than anything else.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Last Olympian has not been made into a movie and there are no immediate plans to do so.

The Last Olympian is the final book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series containing five books. Riordan has other books similar to this series, such as The Heroes of Olympus series.
